2000+ and counting

Recently we passed the 2,000 mark – that’s 2,000 handmade ceramic hearts cut, fired, and glazed. All but maybe 100-200 are out there in the world, mostly hanging in (he)art bombings. It’s funny, 2,000 doesn’t seem so big in some ways, but I also have to remember just how many hours of time they represent. It really is a milestone.

Thanks to everyone who has supported us and contributed so far. Here’s to thousands more hearts in the coming months!

porcelain hearts

ooooo, pretty

We’ve been making a special batch of hearts using fine porcelain clay and this awesome glaze that makes a wide range of reds, from a slight blush to a deep near-black. There is a limited number of them and no two are alike.

These unique porcelain hearts are $10 each. We’re hoping to sell a bunch of these so we can raise money for our (he)art bombing in San Francisco.

s&k

We just wanted to share a photo of the porcelain hearts we made as favors for our wedding. We love how they turned out!

custom hearts

4 Oct

We had a request about making custom hearts, so we worked out the details and would like to share them with everyone.

We are using a vintage cookie cutter to cut out these hearts so we can assure a uniform size that will fit the decals. The hearts are just under 3″ tall. The text area is about 1.5″ wide and can accommodate 4 lines of text. As you can see above, between 10 and 20 characters can fit in a line, depending on if you are using a wide letter like capital M or a narrow letter like lowercase i.
You can order hearts with a custom message for $3 each (plus shipping if necessary). As always, the funds we raise selling hearts and other art will help keep this project going. Contact us at loveisaradicalact (at) gmail (dot) com to discuss details. As always, we have our regular hearts for sale and would love to see them pop up all over the place. Thanks!

P.S. The quote on the example in the photo is from the decision on the 1967 Loving v Virginia case. The decision affirms that marriage is a basic civil right and rightly calls out anti-miscegenation laws as racist. It also gives a sweet but not-too-sentimental definition of marriage: “Marriage is a coming together for better or for worse, hopefully enduring, and intimate to the degree of being sacred.”

a belated thank you

17 Sep

Thanks to a couple of generous friends, last Monday we glazed 193 hearts. And let me tell you how much more I appreciate them now, because in the past week we’ve gone through all but maybe a couple dozen of those hearts. Time to get more cut because we have installation events coming up soon. Thanks, friends!

buy some art: ceramic plaques

11 Sep

Kelly has started making some cute ceramic plaques celebrating couples and marriage equality. We sold one at the beginning of August to a nice lady from a small town in Idaho who said she was buying it for her son and his partner. How sweet.

Each plaque is handmade, white clay with a red stain, and has a wire hanger.
